Tools for Change, 1993
Cut book, wooden tool box, carpenter's saw with engraved poem
19 x 32 x 27 in.

In 1992 I found an old wooden toolbox in an abandoned building. The only thing in the box was a carpenter's saw.
I had a book, The History of Warfare: The Cold War, by Lawrence Friedman.
I knew a poem, Power, by Thomas McGrath
I sawed the book into strips. I put the re-purposed book into the toolbox. I engraved the poem into the saw blade:

Power
Just a few words!
A world rises...
And another falls.
